Depression Diagnosis and Treatment
What is depression?
Depression is a mental state of low mood or reduction in enjoyment that impacts approximately 20 million Americans each year. Everyone has bad days or moments. Depression becomes a problem when these symptoms persist and impact an individual’s ability to function.
Saying a person is “depressed” is a little like saying a car has “engine trouble.” Depression could present with many different degrees of severity and have many different underlying causes. Not all people who are depressed need to take psychiatric medication.
How is depression treated?
At Benson Behavioral Health, a psychiatric practice serving Oregon, depression treatment begins with a complete evaluation of an individual’s mental and physical health status.
