Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Diagnosis and Treatment
What is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a condition in which people have both unwanted recurrent thoughts (obsessions) as well as unwanted repetitive behaviors (compulsions.) For example, a person may have the persistent fear of their hands being contaminated by germs and because of these thoughts spend an excessive amount of time washing their hands. These thoughts and behaviors can dramatically interfere with daily functioning. Approximately 2-3% of the population suffers from OCD at some point in their lives, with slightly more women than men affected.
How is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder treated?
At Benson Behavioral Health, ADHD and OCD treatment begins with a complete evaluation of an individual’s mental and physical health status. Our OCD experts provide evidence-based OCD treatments, including medications, nutritional supplements, sleep pattern modifications, supportive psychotherapy, referral to talk therapists or treatment centers, and more. Online OCD therapy has been found to be just as effective as therapy that is performed in person. Many highly effective OCD medication options exist.
